The synagogue was a horse stable
of the army, now the white is white
and gold again, a romantic house
of prayer in Catholic colours
Money and keys go in
separately from us
The control gates bleep, but
everyone is allowed to go through
though the men have to go aside
past the guest table
to take a kippah
The women are free
reverent by nature
even with wild red hair
and shining pins -
a symphony of life
on the edge of the holy
behind the black curtain
Zywa
10de symfonie van het leven
De synagoge was een paardenstal
van het leger, nu is het wit weer wit
en goud, een romantisch gebedshuis
in katholieke kleuren
Geld en sleutels gaan apart
van ons naar binnen
De poortjes piepen maar
iedereen mag doorlopen
al moeten de mannen opzij
langs de gastentafel
om een keppel te pakken
De vrouwen zijn vrij
eerbiedig van nature
ook met wilde rode haren
en blinkende spelden
een symfonie van leven
op de grens van het heilige
achter de zwarte voorhang

10. Sinfonie des Lebens
Die Synagoge war ein Pferdestall
der Armee, jetzt ist das Weiß wieder Weiß
und Gold, ein romantisches Bethaus
in katholischen Farben
Geld und Schlüssel gehen
von uns getrennt ein
Die Tore quietschen, aber
alle dürfen durch
nur müssen die Männer zur Seite
am Gasttisch vorbei
um eine Kippa zu holen
Die Frauen sind frei
von Natur aus ehrfurchtsvoll
auch mit wilden roten Haaren
und glänzenden Nadeln -
eine Sinfonie des Lebens
an der Grenze des Heiligen
hinter dem schwarzen Vorhang
