Zywa Pinball machine

Everything flows, a coming
and going of opportunities
Flags blow everywhere
but I don't put poles
of certainty around me

My work and my relationships
are fluid, my fate
is not in my hands
not even in the lines
that fortune tellers read

Pleasure for myself
idealism for all
between the flippers and
the facades of the day and
the dreams of the night

The flippers of catastrophes
and consequences bang
on the bonces of power
the wheels of money and
the cannonballs of contempt

Zywa Stepmama

I would
escape, not know better
and run off, maybe scared
without a street cat helping me
but free

I would
go straight for my dreams
the smells that I can't reach
stroll through hedges and gardens
I'll never forget it

Would it
have happened that way
and do you want that too
or is attention enough
when you meow

Entertain me, Caress me
or are you asking: Comfort me
you just have no idea
what prison is
set me free

Zywa Freedom is not dressed

I have practiced not to move
not to sigh, hack or cough
I'm on my way in underwear

They carry me through the thirteen
doors, folded up in a chest, books
under my knees, under my head

The world needs laws
that are above parties, for years
I have been thinking across borders

about the right to freedom:
of the seas and self-determination
of peoples, I sit still for hours

writing without a sigh or cough
I have practiced not to move
two hours every evening in the chest

to make a success of the plan
that my wife's love
conceived for me

Hugo Grotius (1583-1645): legal treatise "Mare Liberum" ("The Freedom of the Seas") in 1609, and escape from Loevestein Castle on March 22nd, 1621

Zywa Book chest

Laws liberate people
more than anything else
The smoother, the more

they are like a clear lake
making the elusive depth
of the sky understandable

Not the separate laws that are on their own as poles, that limit, oppress and obstruct

that have given me a life sentence
so that I have all the time
where I smooth out legal rules

to world laws
that are not after anything
but everyone's freedom

From a chest, I eat
books, and the chest eats me
and carries me to the other side

I flee to my freedom

Zywa Wedged

After the departure of the Romans
we were again our own masters
at war with each other

The sergeants took over
first the peripheral areas
then the middle land

Only behind the mountains
the residents continue to resist
longing for a king of their own

As once
his sword shone
his sword shines

immovably stuck
in the eyes of the people
dreaming of a peaceful life –

a passed-on promise
for once, but unfortunately
the sword has disappeared

Novel "Hoor nu mijn stem", chapter 24
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter through the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many enter through it; but small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it

Zywa Female bodies

Mama, of course, conceded
sometimes, not often
I hope, out of love

being a little bit less mutual
for the moment

I didn't know anything about that
I was romantic
did not think about children

awakened by tumult
in the parental bedroom

At home was safe, I didn't pay attention
to those other women
available to men's eyes

That was a different world
of advertising and loveless sex

but now I notice, I see
female bodies
as human bodies

only having themselves
as owner

Zywa Land of my dreams

I feel Grandpa's soul in me

contracting with desire
for land, not fields
but my own pastures
No longer being expelled
by the farmer's sons

with their dogs, mice
and bugs in the beds
for their sick and their sore backs
from ploughing and planting
weeding, harvesting and grinding the grain

I have gone further
than my father, with my herd
on the way to uninhabited pastures
but I did not find them, nowhere
was the land of my dreams

Only the desert is free

Zywa Silent walk

I strayed off
no weeds over here
time rushes by
on a busy track

Full trains without me!
Replaced by someone else
so I hope for my colleagues

Don't worry
we'll be fine
you do look very good
you are free!

Wagons of words!
I am alone here!
On raked paths

Zywa Angry with me

Never I wanted to tolerate anything from anyone
exept from myself, I preferred

to be lazy and if I ever once did
help a bit really everyone was amazed

and looking at me -- I already see the time
approaching no one does remember that

Ice-cold I snubbed my parents
at all times I was quarrelling

at our home there always seemed something to be
the matter and every time I was angry

with myself, while nobody was angry with me
what was even more difficult for me

then I wished to be left alone
and full of misery I sat down and cried --

the entire earth is a vale of tears
that a girl has to endure virtuously

by being beautiful every new day again
like a flower that makes people happy

Zywa If only I live

Just let me dance
and throw me off the mountain
away from the boring life
of the molluscs at the table

I prefer to go through the gate
of the gods and enter the world
tired of toil and reverse
dancing in the evenings

callouses under my feet
burning my intestines
if only I live, dancing
for myself and the neighbours

Just throw me out of the castle
off the stage in the dining hall
where the nobles feast
in clouds of perfume and beer

against the stench in the niches
where they urinate and defecate
for a kiss on my hand they come
to grope me, unnoticed
