Zywa Drinking with the neighbours

The sun is a diver
in the west, unreachable
for the moon with hair
colouring red from desire

And red colour the grapes
in the valley with the lighthouses
along the swamp river
in the country in the middle

between pole and equator
The days are short
With the neighbours
we drink last year's wine

dark as the nights
The moon kisses the sun
out of his sleep, kisses him
kisses, kisses him back

We celebrate, treat
each other at togetherness
Choirs pass from door to door
and we eat pastries

Zywa In soil that I have not chosen

In soil that I have not chosen
in no one's shadow
all myself

I watch and hear the neighbours
I can't get any closer

My branches reach
ever stronger, ever further
Children climb in them

They laugh and kiss
themselves a future

In soil that I have not chosen
in no one's shadow
I become rough and wrinkled

In heat, snow and storm
branches break and die

They reach ever
thinner and shorter
Nests blow away

to new trees
For new loves

Zywa They say it

They say it doesn't mean a thing
Because we are just mirrors
who kindly greet in return

But still, the baker knows my name
and the postman is happy
that I'm home

for the parcels
for the neighbours
Happy New Year

Looking forward, we keep heart
with good tidings, even though
they say it doesn't mean a thing

that in the rest of the year
calamities will smoke again
crimes and fear, what is normal

will get out of sight
even though you witness it every day
and that we will amuse ourselves again

with the ambulant judge to reinforce
peace with the right, and that is all
it means, they say

Zywa Café The Neighbour

From afar I have been
drifted, blown this way
like Sahara sand

rained down
on fertile soil
a grain of pollen

in the yellow border
around the puddle in the pothole
on this path

where you never go
and I walk to the café
every day

hoping for contact
in your language, but
only Jenny has time

to help shorten my
wait with hope
and sometimes someone

sits there, bored
drinking tea
next to me

Zywa Fruit blood

We aren't friends, yet
I nod to her, my hand too
bends to greet, nobody can

see this, just to be sure
I keep a distance, everyone can
damage me

The people spit at her
since the neighbours' son
is sick and the fever goes up

Last month they pulled her
out of her home, they tore
the clothes off her back

they have beaten her
into the pond and drove her
naked through the streets

There was blood in the zucchini
the baba gave her, everybody
has seen she is a witch

The boy is better again, but
the neighbour is entitled to her
land because of his child, they say

Zywa We keep nearby far from us

Neighbours at my door
They are as different as
their names and each of us
knows how far he will go
in being helpful

There is no hugging
We make no mistakes with that
We are replaceable, we
don't want to be stuck and
free ourselves from expectations

We keep nearby far from us
We rather love our own kind
of solitude and practise
patience with ourselves
than trust and love

for the strangers
who live next to us
We seek salvation
and we seek it higher up
in irreplaceability
