give them power, and that power
attracts people

Supporters drop out, so
the level drops again

Thus the masses push and thrust
the waters of prosperity up and down
as if it were happening to them

Far away the sea moves with it
bringing drought or flood
and tormenting people until they unite

in a countervailing power, bringing their
well-being and downfall upon themselves
with all its consequences
